Swim Away with the Mermaids — Grasscloth
A mermaid with seaweed hair and stories to tell.
This design began with childhood summers, shell collecting and a daughter's imaginary friend who lived just below the waterline. The mermaids flick their tails between shells and coral, each one hand carved in the Somerset studio with the kind of quiet detail that rewards a closer look.
On grasscloth, that quietness deepens. The natural fibres bring a softness and texture to the carved line that feels almost oceanic the pattern shifting gently as the light moves across it, the way the sea always seems to be moving even when it's still.
A little bit magical. Entirely at home beside the bath or along a hallway or anywhere the sea feels like a good idea.
Made to order. Never mass produced.
The pattern is the set. Your room is the stage.
Minimum order 5 metres. For other quantities email the studio at studio@annikareed.com

STORY BEHIND SWIM AWAY WITH THE MERMAIDS
Part of Annika Reed Studio’s Upstairs Downstairs collection, Swim Away with the Mermaids belongs to the Upstairs chapter four story led designs for children’s spaces where imagination runs deep. Rooted in folklore and family memory, this pattern brings the quiet magic of the sea indoors, blending myth, memory, and the joy of make believe.
This design celebrates the spirit of the sea and the stories it carries. Inspired by my family’s roots in fishing and the sea shanties that once filled our home it honours the rhythm of coastal life, where folklore and everyday memories blur.
The mermaids in this pattern aren’t fairytale creatures; they're the ones children spot in rock pools, dream about in the bath, and draw in the sand. Hand carved in my Somerset studio, this design is for anyone who’s ever stood at the edge of the sea and let their imagination swim just a little further.
