House Tour with House Beautiful
When House Beautiful came round, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves. Letting others into your space is always personal, but a house tour is especially so.
The visit was a wonderful opportunity to showcase where so many of my designs find their inspiration, with each room playing its own role in the story of my home. Upstairs, my wallpapers add depth and character to the bedrooms, while downstairs, my Nan's cherished Staffordshire pottery collection takes pride of place in the living room and kitchen, even inspiring designs like Pair of Dogs and Red Coat.
For me, a house tour should feel like wandering through a series of stories. Each room has its own personality but connects seamlessly to the next. I love how the kitchen acts as the joyful hub of our home, with green cabinets and a bright yellow ceiling reminiscent of sunlit days or a vibrant Moroccan market. It’s a space where I often linger, sharing cups of tea or scribbling down design ideas. That warmth flows naturally into the living room, where Dutch Orange by Edward Bulmer wraps the walls. There’s something about this shade that feels like a hug, making it a favourite feature of our house tour.
Moving upstairs, the atmosphere shifts. Here, the colours cool down to soothing blues and greens, creating a calm and inviting space. The main bedroom feels like a little sanctuary, with my Rubber Plant wallpaper chosen by my husband to add a touch of the outdoors. We carried that same green onto the woodwork for a harmonious feel, making it a highlight of the house tour as it truly captures the tranquil spirit of the room. The children’s rooms are where the magic comes to life, with Pegasus and Red Coat wallpapers bringing a sense of wonder. It’s a glimpse into the playful side of our family life.
As we wandered around, I shared the stories behind my designs and the inspirations that come from living in a space filled with personal treasures. We ended the house tour in my garden studio, which is the heart of where all the magic happens. It’s a place of creative chaos, where sketches, woodblocks, and half-formed ideas lay strewn across the table. It’s not polished, but that’s the charm of it—it’s where my designs truly come to life, one idea at a time.
The house tour was a lovely way to share how home isn’t just a place; it’s the pulse of my inspiration and the backdrop of my life’s work.
