STORY BEHIND DAFFODIL
Part of Annika Reed Studio’s Upstairs Downstairs collection, Daffodil belongs to the Downstairs chapter – four sophisticated single stem botanicals that root the home in the rhythm of the British seasons. Inspired by the classic 2 up, 2 down home, the collection celebrates the grounding embrace of nature below and the boundless wonder of childhood above.
In British folklore, the daffodil heralds joy and good fortune, blooming just as winter loosens its hold. To the Victorians, it was a symbol of chivalry and unrequited love. Associated with renewal and fresh starts, it was believed to lift spirits and encourage hope after long, grey months. Hand carved in Annika’s Somerset studio using traditional woodblock techniques, Daffodil captures that first bright burst of the season, a reminder that new beginnings are always just around the corner.
