Honiton Lace - Noir
Honiton Lace is a nod to my family history. I grew up in Devon, and both sets of my grandparents lived in Beer, the fishing village where Honiton Lace was made.
The lace, celebrated for its delicate and beautiful design, was particularly popular during the Victorian era, in part due to the Royal family, who used it in great quantities. Queen Victoria’s wedding dress was deeply trimmed with Honiton Lace, reportedly taking four hundred workers three months to make, and revived its declining popularity at the time.
I share the Victorians’ love of the lace, not only due to my family links to the region, but because of a shared love for handmade crafts, and the uniqueness and imperfections that this brings. It is no longer commercially made, however, some people still make it as a hobby.
This wallpaper celebrates this bygone craft and brings it up-to-date with an emboldened colour palette. It’s a versatile print and would particularly suit those looking to preserve a little part of British history on their walls.
