Upstairs Downstairs: A New Collection of Handcrafted Wallpaper

This new collection of eight wallpapers and linen has been carved, inked and printed in my Somerset studio using traditional woodblock printing techniques, a craft that leaves its mark in every line.

Inspired by the classic British two up, two down, Upstairs Downstairs explores the duality of home, the grounding embrace of nature below, and the soaring wonder of childhood above. It’s a collection designed to reflect both sides of life: the rooted and the whimsical, the calm and the playful.

Act I: Downstairs — Botanical Wallpaper Rooted in Story

The first chapter, Downstairs, is a love letter to gardens and folklore. These four botanical wallpapers each celebrate a single stem, echoing the rhythm of the British seasons and the rituals of old-world gardens.

🌼 Daffodil 

The Herald of Spring A bright messenger of renewal, associated with joy and good fortune in folklore. Available in two scales, it can whisper gently in the background or bring bold cheer to a whole room.

🌸 Dahlia 

Summer’s Statement Stem Sculptural and proud, the dahlia was a symbol of dignity and elegance in Victorian floriography. Available in red or blue and in small or large scale repeats, Dahlia offers choice between subtle sophistication and a room defining statement.

🌻 Sunflower

The Joy Seeker Golden petals and a textured centre that always turns towards the light. In folklore, sunflowers symbolise loyalty and warmth. This handcrafted wallpaper captures that radiant spirit, translating the carved woodblock detail into a design full of life. It’s a joyful pattern that feels as welcoming in kitchens as it does in family rooms, bringing optimism and warmth wherever it’s hung.

🔔 Bluebell

The Woodland Whisper Delicate, nodding blooms steeped in folklore. Bluebells were said to ring to summon woodland fairies, a symbol of humility and love. This design brings a quiet, grounding magic into calm spaces.

A nautical handcrafted wallpaper and linen filled with accordion players, ship’s wheels and anchors. Inspired by my family’s history of fishing and the sea shanties that shaped childhood, it captures the camaraderie and quiet humour of life at sea.

🧜 Swim Away with the Mermaids

A handcrafted wallpaper and linen of mermaids, shells and seaweed hair  drawn from coastal folklore and summers spent collecting treasures on the beach. Available in soft pink and green or a neutral ground, this design balances whimsy with calm.

🚀 Float Away into Space

Rockets soar, stars scatter, and galaxies form across the wall. This whimsical wallpaper and linen is perfect for little explorers who dream big. Inspired by bedtime stories and the thrill of discovery, it turns a bedroom into a launchpad for curiosity.

Handcrafted Wallpaper in Somerset

At the heart of this collection is the ancient art of woodblock printing. Every sailor, sunflower and fairy wing begins as a carved line in wood. That hand carved detail carries into the final product, giving each handcrafted wallpaper its distinctive texture and depth.

Printing is done in Somerset, where I work from my studio surrounded by the English countryside. The designs are then sustainably printed on non woven paper, easy to hang with paste the wall application, and made to order within 1–3 weeks.
