Children's Bedroom Wallpaper Ideas
Looking for children's bedroom wallpaper? We all feel nostalgic when thinking about our childhood bedrooms; they’re remembered as safe spaces where our imaginations had permission to run wild. Children’s rooms should be playful, inspiring and full to the brim with imagination, giving your little one the belief that anything is possible! One of the best ways to bring these much-loved spaces to life is with fun colour and fantastical motifs that open their eyes to the world around them. Choosing to adorn walls with wallpaper is an effective and timeless way to decorate any children's room; but the dilemma is, which do you choose?
The main challenge people often face with children’s rooms is finding a decor scheme that doesn’t date. It can prove difficult, but curating a space that can grow alongside your little one is key to designing a timeless (yet eclectic!) interior. Aiming for longevity means you can invest in a wallpaper that will hang for many years to come, being there as your little one goes from crib, to cot, to bed. Choosing fabrics and wallpapers that will stand the test of time is not only sustainable, but it’s also kinder for your purse!
Decorating your child’s room and need some inspiration? Read on to discover my favourite timeless wallpaper designs, perfect for children’s bedrooms.
The perfect choice for the horse-obsessed! This fanciful design features the fabled winged horse prancing along, inviting children to make up their own story as the inspiration arises. The motif offers a starting point, and your little one’s imagination can do the rest. This is the design I have in my daughter’s bedroom and she loves it! She has named each one and we tell tales of them before bedtime. My favourite is Derek, who is the warrior horse who feeds her ice cream in the forest. We all need a Derek.
Children’s rooms should encourage imagination, so what better wallpaper to choose than The Anteater, a design that was inspired by my childhood self’s love for reading! My favourite author as a child was Roald Dahl, and his Dirty Beasts collection of rhymes about unsuspecting animals inspired this spirited children’s wallpaper. The Anteater, though seemingly absurd and fantastical, is a telling portrait on the relationship between human and animal, which adds a little everyday magic and a love of nature to any child’s walls.
Anteater's Breath is a blue-grey shade that will complement all interior schemes.
Don’t be mistaken, this wallpaper isn’t just for boys! I love that all our designs are completely unisex and not defined by the usual gender stereotypes that children’s rooms sometimes face. The Anteater wallpaper is the perfect example of this, being a fantastic addition to every child’s room, whatever gender or age.
The pink background adds a soft and calming influence, as well as adding a touch of playfulness.
The Tiger Tiger design was inspired by the William Blake poem Tyger Tyger, and was the first wallpaper I designed for my daughter's bedroom. It is the wonderment Blake has for the world and the miracle of nature that I wanted my daughter to share. The illustration of the tiger is innocent. However, the meaning is complex and will provoke debate as she grows. This wallpaper is perfect for creating a room with a sense of curiosity and wonder. You can read the poem and learn more about the Blake-inspired design here.
Who knew lion’s could fly? Let your child's imagination run wild and unleash Winged Lions to roar across their walls. The design inspired by ancient mythology is perfect for creating an interior with a sense of wisdom and curiosity. The mythical creature dates back to ancient times and is a powerful symbol, used to give an immediate and unique sign of identity, strength and wisdom. I designed the wallpaper to bring this same feeling of protection into your home. The design also brings a softness to this mythical being, showcased in a palette of two subtle pastel colourways.
Playful stripes bring movement into your child's room. Somerset Stripes updates the classic stripe with its playful hand-drawn lines. There is something about the classic stripe that is warming and comforting, but being so perfect and straight is harsh. I have taken the classic stripe and added a playful and handmade twist.
Stripes are a great way to create the illusion of space. They can be hung either horizontally or vertically to create a fabulous look and can also help create the illusion of height for rooms with low ceilings.
Stripes are the ideal unisex pattern and pair perfectly with other patterns for a maximalist feel. Stripes are a great idea for teenagers's room adding sophistication yet playful charm.
I hope these wallpapers have given you some inspiration for your little one’s bedroom. You can shop the wallpapers mentioned, and a selection of other playful designs that would be at home in your children’s bedroom below.
Happy wallpapering,
